The Designed by Mee website has been created so that I can display a visual account of some of the work that I do. These pieces include ceramic sculptures, ceramic jewellery and other pieces of art and design.

I graduated from Demontfort University in Glass and Ceramics in 2005, which helped me to develop the skills I need to design and create from my inspiration. I have, since graduating, had my work displayed at the New Designers in London, the Craft Centre in Leeds, N.A.M.E. in Stoneleigh Park and at the Harley Gallery Art Market in Worksop, where I received some very positive feedback about my designs.

My sculptural pieces were developed from a study of dilapidated buildings and structures. Having grown up in a farming village peppered with old buildings in various states of disrepair, I decided to look closely at as many different types of these structures as I could find. In these structures I found an amazing accumulation of textures, shapes and colours, so I implemented these particular elements into the building of my own ceramic forms.

With jewellery I have very particular tastes. I tend to go for the natural material type of jewellery such as wooden, shell or bone rather than the more commercial variety, so I decided that I would like to create my own jewellery using ceramics. The creation of my earlier jewellery designs were helped with my dilapidated structure study, but the more recent designs were based on a study of the beach and the sea, where I found the bold natural colours and contrasts provided me with strong ideas to produce some wonderful decorative pieces.

Although I graduated in glass and ceramics, my interests spread too many more aspects of art and design. Photography is a subject that I have been developing over the past few years and recently had one of my photographic images displayed at the Picture House in Leicester.

Hopefully with this website, I will be able to display the work I have created to anyone who is interested in the kind of work that I do. Eventually I hope to develop the website more by adding an online buying element to it, until then if you are interested in any the work displayed here then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
